The Boston Red Sox placed right-handed pitcher Richard Fitts on the 15-day injured list with right arm neuritis on Tuesday.
The news comes a day removed from Fitts leaving the game one pitch into the sixth inning of Monday’s 4-3 win over Baltimore in his first career relief appearance.
Each of Fitts’ first 14 major league appearances since his debut last September were starts before he was inserted in the second inning Monday, recording his second career win by throwing four innings and allowing three runs on two hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
Fitts has a 2-4 record and 5.00 ERA over 45 innings this season with 40 strikeouts and 16 walks.
As a corresponding move, the Red Sox recalled LHP Jovani Moran from Triple-A Worcester. Moran has thrown just four innings, allowing three runs, for the Red Sox this season since he was traded from Minnesota last December. He has a 4.26 career ERA over 95 innings.
