The Houston Rockets’ season has taken a turn for the worse before the year has even tipped off.
Rockets star point guard Fred VanVleet has suffered a torn ACL and could potentially miss the entire 2025-26 season, ESPN reported Monday.
VanVleet recently signed a two-year, $50 million extension with the team in June.
A key piece to the Rockets’ turnaround, VanVleet has averaged 15.9 points and 6.9 assists per game and shot 40 percent in his two seasons in Houston.
The 2021-22 All-Star and 2019 NBA champion with the Raptors has helped increase the Rockets win total from 22 wins to 41 in his first year, and then to 52 wins and the No. 2 seed in the West last season.
VanVleet has averaged 14.9 points and 5.7 assists across his nine NBA seasons.
