GREEN BAY, Wis. Packers star edge rusher Micah Parsons, who has been bothered by a back injury since being acquired recently in a blockbuster trade with Dallas, is active for today’s season opener against the visiting Detroit Lions.
Parsons, a two-time All-Pro selection, was acquired from Dallas on Aug. 28 for two first-round draft picks and defensive lineman Kenny Clark.
Parsons, who had 52 1/2 sacks in his four seasons with the Cowboys, was traded following a contract stalemate with Dallas.
He practiced in pads last week in a limited capacity and was listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report.
“He’s looked limited, but he’s done a nice job in that capacity,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Friday.
LaFleur said that even in a limited capacity, Parsons exhibited some explosiveness.
“He’s a freak,” LaFleur said. “So that certainly stands out when he’s out there.”
