Whitt promoted, Packers coaching staff taking shape

When the Packers hired an outside candidate, Mike Pettine, to be their defensive coordinator, the question became how many (if any) assistant coaches would be retained.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers will keep cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt Jr. on staff, and promote him to the elevated role of defensive passing game coordinator. (Check out the story at The Packers Wire)

Whitt was one of three internal candidates to interview for the coordinator job, Winston Moss and Darren Perry being the others. He joined the Packers staff in 2008, and now has a nice new promotion.

We’ll talk about the Packers defensive changes at 10:15 with former linebacker Brady Poppinga.
